Linda M. Callejas conducts research and evaluation in the areas of collaborative community development initiatives, mental health disparities among minority populations, and race/ethnicity among U.S. Latinos.  Ms. Callejas recently conducted a needs assessment study of east and south Hillsborough County residents for the Rural Social Service Partnership, Inc.  She also developed a training curriculum for locally funded school-linked case management teams in Hillsborough County public schools that integrate the promotoras model of outreach, as part of the RAICES/Promotora Field Initiated Development Project, funded by the U.S. Department of Education.  As an outgrowth of this project, she has worked to support the continued development of the Familias Latinas Dejando Huellas, Tampa Bay Chapter of the Federation of Families for Children's Mental Health-the first and only such chapter in the nation developed to address the specific needs of Spanish-speaking children and families.  In 2005, Ms. Callejas recieved a grant from the USF Collaborative for Children, Families, and Communities to examine the social support networks established between members of Familias Latinas Dejando Huellas and the larger community.  An important project output was publication of the "Spanish-Language Provider Capabilities: Directory of Children's Services in Hillsborough County," which identifies the bilingual capacity of county providers.

Ms. Callejas is currently a doctoral canadidate in Applied Anthropology.  For her dissertation research, Ms. Callejas is working with members of the Sociedad La Union Marti-Maceo in Ybor City to examine issues related to cultural heritage representation and ethnic/recial identity formation in the context of migration and long-term settlement in the U.S. among descendents of Black Cuban cigar workers.  In 2003, Ms. Callejas recieved a Latino Studies Pre-Doctoral Fellowship from the Smithsonian Institution to support preliminary research on her dissertation.  She serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Federation of Families for Children's Mental Health, Hillsborough County Chapter, for the year of 2006-2007.
