Brief Biography
Dr. George is an Assistant Professor and Co-Principal Investigator and Program Coordinator for the state-funded Positive Behavior Support (PBS)Project. She also serves as a Research Partner for both the federally-funded OSEP TA Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBS) and as a Research Associate with the Research and Demonstration Center for School-wide Behavior Support. For over 15 years, Heather has provided training and technical assistance in positive behavior supports across individual, classroom, targeted group, and school-wide levels within elementary, middle, high, center, and alternative schools. Much of her professional activity involves coordinating systems change efforts at the local, state and national level to support the implementation of evidence-based practices. Dr. George teaches at the university level and serves as an Editor for both Preventing School Failure and the Journal of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. Before joining Florida's PBS Project in 2001, Dr. George served as the Technical Assistance Coordinator of the Louisiana PBS Project providing training and technical assistance across schools. Prior to that time, she served as Administrator for a community-based respite, habilitation, and vocational program in Indiana. Dr. George completed her doctoral training at Louisiana State University in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Special Education and School Psychology and her master's in Psychology at Indiana State University. Her areas of interest include positive behavior support, school-wide discipline, systems-level change, implementation processes, and function-based behavior support planning.
