National Child Welfare Training Institute (NCWLI)

Description

Four members of CFS are among a group of highly qualified child welfare experts contributing to the National Child Welfare Training Institute (NCWLI), a new program offering leadership training for public and tribal mid-level child welfare managers. Mary Armstrong, Karen Blase, Dean Fixsen and Amy Vargo are partnering with the University of Utah to develop a training curriculum that will focus on leadership skills while utilizing evidence-based practice as the common link across the entire curriculum. The curriculum promotes leadership development resulting in effective relationships among mid-level managers and others within the work setting and within the broader child and family services systems.

Partners involved in NCWLI include individuals from the Social Research Institute, College of Social Work, University of Utah, the Independent Living Resources, Inc. in Durham North Carolina, the American Humane Association in Denver Colorado, the National Implementation Research Network and evaluators from the Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute in Tampa, Florida.

An innovative aspect of NCWLI involves e-learning communities, which will be created immediately following regional 5-day training sessions. E-learning community meetings will be arranged via a conference call, chat room or other agreed-upon methods. Website resources will be developed for each community and will provide development opportunities (homework/practicum period) that will be accomplished by participants at their home agencies.
