Statewide Suicide Prevention Implementation Program
Description
The purpose of the Statewide Suicide Prevention Implementation Program is to develop, in close coordination with the newly created Office of Suicide
Prevention, a comprehensive suicide prevention program to implement the
State Suicide Prevention strategy which, when implemented would reduce the
suicide rate in the state of Florida. FMHI will convene a planning group comprised of representatives from the Governor’s Florida Suicide Prevention Task Force, the Florida Suicide Prevention Coalition (a non-profit organization founded by survivors, crisis center representatives, and others), other survivors, and service providers. The planning group will include representation from the Florida Office of Drug Control, the Florida Office of Suicide Prevention, the Florida Department of Children and Families, the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, and the Florida Department of Education. FMHI will extend invitations to national organizations to assist with planning including but not limited to: the American Association of Suicidology, The Suicide Prevention Action Network, and the Suicide Prevention Resource Center. This initial planning shall focus on four major content areas: social marketing, training, community capacity building, and specific interventions. In addition, an overall emphasis will be on the organizational and implementation structures and processes to sustain the initiative in local communities.
The result of the project will be a coordinated state-wide suicide prevention effort. The project will result in a final product, an implementation strategy which can be implemented at the local level so services will not need to be continued.
