Description
Areas of Expertise of NCYT
- Leaders of NCYT are among the foremost authors in the mental health field focusing on improving youth transition in the domains of education, employment, living situation, personal adjustment, and community life functioning (e.g., Clark, lead editor of the best selling book: Transition to Adulthood: A Resource for Assisting Young People with EBD).
- NCYT has an array of technical assistance and training strategies to assist community partners in building their capacity to develop, expand, and improve services for youth and their families.
- The primary transition service model, referred to as the Transition to Independence Process (TIP), is supported by research that endorses its practices as well as two studies that show substantially improved long-term outcomes related to employment, post-secondary education, incarceration, and cost avoidance savings.
- NCYT is able to support the development and application of measurement methods for continuous quality improvement and evaluation of a site’s service delivery system.
- NCYT is advancing the issues of transition through its leadership roles on state, professional, and national task forces and committees (e.g., Chapin Hall Forum on Transition Policy, National Summit on Education and Transition, a white paper on federal programs related to transition).
- Dissemination activities are illustrated on the NCYT website which has, on average, 1,500 visitors per month, with over 30% of its pages being explored by each visitor.
