USF Awarded $3.7 Million Grant for New Web Portal to Share Best Practices in Child Welfare Services

The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) has awarded a three-year, $3.7 million grant to the University of South Florida's Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute (FMHI) to develop Florida's Center for the Advancement of Child Welfare Practice, an innovative statewide informational Web portal.

box marking link Residential Treatment Programs for Youth: CFS Staff Lead Efforts in Policy Reform A web-based survey developed by Interim Chair Mario Hernandez is now being distributed nationwide to psychologists in order to learn more about current state licensing and monitoring.

box marking link FMHI has expanded its workforce development initiatives by offering an innovative self-contained program for in-service training in children's mental health. Through distance learning technologies, the program brings expert instruction to the field, both in Florida, and nationwide.

box marking link Summer Field School Program Opens Community Doors: Graduate Students Gain Expertise in Actual Research Settings Faculty and USF graduate students have wrapped up an intensive training program aimed at assessing and ultimately improving the condition of current and future communities.

box marking link First Weeks of Operation for Florida's Center for the Advancement of Child Welfare Practice Receive Remarkable Response from Users. In the first two weeks the Center has registered 2,896 users.

box marking link The First Six Months: Initial Report Sets Baseline for Florida's IV-E Waiver Program Since 2001, CFS has conducted the annual evaluation of Florida's privatized child welfare, the community based care program.

box marking link FMHI Expands the Knowledge of PBS Internationally A collaborative partnership between FMHI and Kongju National University (KNU) in South Korea has provided increased opportunities for DARES staff to expand the knowledge of positive behavior support (PBS) internationally.

Casey Foundation has released the 18th annual KIDS COUNT Data Book which provides information and statistical trends on the conditions of America's children and families. The 2007 report also looks at the 726,000 children in the United States who spend time in foster care each year and what can be done to build and strengthen the family relationships that these children need.

box marking link New Publication Provides Road Map for System Transformation for Family Members, Educators, and Mental Health Professionals A new report released from the Research and Training Center for Children's Mental Health addresses challenges related to the welfare and functioning of America's families and their children.

box marking link Governor Crist Appoints CFS's Steve Roggenbaum to the Suicide Prevention Coordinating Council Earlier this year, Governor Crist signed House Bill 139 establishing the Council to serve in an advisory capacity to the Statewide Office of Suicide Prevention.
