CFS Staff Look Into the Missing Link Between Research and Practice

An article written by staff from the National Implementation Research Network was published in the Winter/Spring issue of the APSAC Advisor, a newsletter of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, a nonprofit national organization focused on meeting the needs of professionals engaged in all aspects of services for maltreated children and their families. APSAC is most interested in the dissemination of state-of-the-art practice in all professional disciplines related to child abuse and neglect.

Authors Dean Fixsen, Sandra Naoom, Karen Blase and Frances Wallace profile implementation – the art and science of incorporating innovations into human service settings to benefit children, families, and communities – with the goal of enabling readers to use the products of research more rapidly and more effectively.

Implementation: The Missing Link Between Research and Practice explores the challenges and strategies related to implementation of evidence-based treatment interventions into direct practice and reveals findings from a recent comprehensive review of implementation evaluation literature conducted by the authors. A synthesis of the literature is included, as well as recommendations for viewing the methods needed to make better use of science in human service settings. Some effective implementation practices found in the review are also highlighted.
