This report reflects a continued partnership between the Consortium for Child Welfare Studies at the Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute (FMHI; University of South Florida) and the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) to conduct analyses of Floridas administrative child protection data. The report examines four of the primary service areas that make-up the Office of Family Safety: Protective Investigations, Protective Supervision, Foster Care, and Adoptive Home Placements. These four service areas are organized in the report by (a) Children Entering the Child Protection System, (b) Maltreated Children, (c) Children Entering Service, (d) Childrens Length of Stay in Service, and (e) Children Exiting Service.Measuring the Length of Stay Experiences of Florida's Foster Children - Released 9/2001
This report focuses on the length of stay in foster care and the flow of children into and out of fostercare. It answers basic questions about children in foster care in light of the State's transition to community-based care. The methods used in this report were selected to provide timely and practical information to both policymakers and service providers. As different questions arise about data, different methods may be needed. Because of the variety of methods available to analyze the data, the indicators shown in this report may differ from similar indicators produced by DCF. It is not the intent of this report to offer in-depth explanations or interpretations of the information. The information is presented to give readers a better understanding of foster care in Florida and allow them to provide their own interpretations.A Profile of Florida's Child Protection System Data--Fiscal Years 1996-97 and 1997-98
Through a partnership between the Florida Department of Children and Families and the Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute at the University of South Florida, an analysis was conducted in order to better utilize the state's extensive administrative data bases. This report is intended to provide state- and district-level stakeholders with information pertaining to the child protection system in Florida that is useful for system management and improvement. This report is organized by primary service areas that make up the Office of Family Safety and Preservation. These areas include: Protective Investigations, Protective Supervision, Foster Care, and Adoptive Home Supervision.
